Crypto enthusiast Diana illustrated the potential benefit in a tweet, calculating how an investor could make $950,000 from an XRP investment without paying capital gains tax on the sale.

How the $950,000 Profit Works

Diana used an example in which an investor purchases 100,000 XRP at $0.50 per token for $50,000. If the price reaches $10, selling the holdings would generate $1 million, producing a $950,000 profit before fees and other costs.

Under Swiss tax rules, qualifying private investors generally pay no capital gains tax on profits from selling privately held assets, including cryptocurrencies, stocks, and bonds. The exemption could therefore leave the investor with the full $950,000 profit from the sale before other expenses.

However, investors must qualify as private investors to benefit from this treatment. Swiss authorities assess trading activity and other circumstances to distinguish private investment from professional trading.

Why Investor Classification Matters

The Swiss Federal Tax Administration’s guidance considers factors such as holding periods, transaction volumes, leverage, and dependence on investment gains for income.

Its criteria generally favor investors who hold assets for at least six months, keep annual transaction volumes below five times their starting portfolio value, avoid substantial leverage, and earn less than half their net income from capital gains.

These criteria do not operate as a simple checklist that automatically determines every case. Tax authorities consider the investor’s overall circumstances. If they classify someone as a professional trader, the profits may count as taxable self-employment income, potentially attracting income tax and social security contributions.

Annual Wealth Tax Still Applies

Diana also noted that Switzerland taxes net wealth annually, including cryptocurrency holdings. Investors may therefore owe wealth tax on their XRP even if they have not sold their tokens.

The amount depends on the investor’s canton and municipality, total net assets, and applicable deductions. Diana estimated that someone with $1 million in net wealth could pay between $900 and $4,500 annually, although this range does not apply uniformly across Switzerland.

Commenter MCDC25 supported the distinction, emphasizing that the exemption applies to qualifying private investors rather than every crypto trader. The commenter also noted that staking rewards generally count as taxable income and that establishing Swiss tax residency requires more than a mailing address.

Crypto analyst Xaif Crypto shared the trade details on X, showing how the trader continues to hold and add to the short while XRP moves higher.

The position now faces a liquidation price of $1.6408, giving the trade a clearly defined level that could become critical if XRP maintains its upward move.

Trader Adds $1.06M To XRP Short

Xaif Crypto shared a screenshot showing the trader’s current XRP short in a notional value of $2.02 million. The trader has committed $100.8K in margin and 20x leverage on the position.

The trader entered the short at approximately $1.5453, while the screenshot shows XRP at a mark price of $1.5577. That price difference has pushed the position into an unrealized loss of about $15.3K.

The trading history shows the trader opened a $956.7K short approximately one hour before the screenshot. The entry price for that position stood at $1.5456. The trader then added another $1.06 million to the short, bringing the total position to roughly $2.02 million.

Xaif Crypto wrote, “XRP is grinding UP while this guy keeps adding to his short,” pointing to the trader’s decision to increase the position despite XRP moving above the entry area.

$1.6408 Liquidation Price

The trader’s 20x leverage places the liquidation price at $1.6408, according to the screenshot shared by Xaif Crypto. XRP would therefore need to move substantially higher from the displayed $1.5577 mark price to reach that level.

Xaif Crypto described the trade as a major risk for the trader and wrote, “Bears about to learn a very expensive lesson.” The analyst also used the phrase “getting REKT” to describe the current position.

The screenshot shows that the trader’s position remains open despite the existing loss. Although the account also records a previous XRP trade with a $7.5K largest win and a $31K largest loss, the screenshot does not establish whether those trades relate directly to the current $2.02 million position.

Traders React To The Leveraged Short

The post also received comments about the trader’s use of 20x leverage. Macro Bombastic wrote, “20x on a short is wild man, I’d be sweating,” focusing on the leverage attached to the position.

Jeff Ross referenced Xaif Crypto’s earlier coverage of the same trader. He asked why the trader didn’t close the position when XRP reached $1.35, noting the trade had previously produced a profit. Ross attributed the decision to remain in the position to “Greed.”

For now, the screenshot shows the trader maintaining the $2.02 million XRP short while the asset trades above the average entry price. The $1.6408 liquidation level remains the key price displayed for the position as XRP continues to move.

In a recent tweet, the pundit cited remarks from Evernorth CEO Asheesh Birla and described market-structure legislation as a potential accelerator for XRP rather than the foundation of its regulatory status.

X Finance Bull pointed to Judge Analisa Torres’ 2023 ruling in the SEC’s case against Ripple. The ruling distinguished XRP itself from the investment-contract circumstances surrounding certain Ripple sales. Ripple and the SEC later dropped their appeals in August 2025, leaving the district court rulings in place.

The commentator also referenced March 17, 2026, when the SEC and CFTC introduced a crypto taxonomy that explicitly included XRP among digital commodities under the agencies’ interpretation.

X Finance Bull said these developments explain Birla’s position on market-structure legislation. Rather than viewing the CLARITY Act as necessary to establish XRP’s status, Birla has described the legislation as a catalyst that could accelerate institutional adoption.

]]> One XRP holder recently put into words what many in the community have felt for months. The account $589 (@589CTO) posted that he bought XRP “hoping I’d never have to worry about money again,” then added: “I’ve worried about money every day since.”

The post drew hundreds of responses from holders sharing similar experiences. Many of them reacted to the aftermath of the CLARITY Act’s Senate failure on September 15.

XRP’s Difficult Year

XRP hit an all-time high of $3.65 in July 2025, but didn’t hold the gains for long. By late November 2025, XRP had dropped below $2. It fell through early 2026, reaching a cycle low of $0.98 in August 2026, representing over 70% from its peak.

A brief recovery followed. XRP rallied over 50% in under three days, reaching $1.68 before leveraged traders were forced to close positions, pulling the price back to $1.44. The rally had priced in a favorable outcome from the CLARITY Act vote. When the Senate blocked the bill 49-50 on September 15, XRP dropped over 10% to around $1.28.

The FOMC raising interest rates by 25 basis points mounted more pressure. XRP currently trades near $1.32 after a slight recovery.

How the Community Responded

The responses to the post revealed a community under real financial strain. One holder described the CLARITY Act failure as a gut punch and asked what the next “magical” date would be, suggesting he has grown skeptical of catalysts that fail to deliver. Another said he now works two jobs and keeps buying regardless.

One commenter said his marriage may not survive before XRP reaches the prices bulls have predicted. Another holder said he has held his XRP since November 2017, calling it a “lifetime ago”; not everyone held on. One commenter said he sold 82,000 tokens three days before the post.

Where Things Stand

XRP has now failed at every major catalyst since its July 2025 peak. The CLARITY Act has failed, and while many people believe it might make a return, Polymarket puts the odds of passage in 2026 at 7%. For holders who bought near the top, the numbers remain difficult. Coach JV revealed that XRP remains the largest holding in his crypto portfolio, accounting for approximately 43%, followed by Bitcoin at around 40%, with Solana as his third-largest position. He emphasized that his confidence in these assets does not depend on claims about DTCC, SWIFT, or supposed insider information. His comments referenced chart analysis from prominent analyst Javon Marks, whose technical analysis points to an even higher target of $17. Together, their outlooks paint a picture of an asset on the verge of a historic move.

A Rally, Then a Hard Correction

KingValeX compared the anticipated move to XRP’s prior surge from under $0.5 to near $3.66. That move happened quickly, beginning with a rapid upward move in late 2024. He expects the next rally to follow a similar pattern, with XRP climbing to $14 before a correction pulls it back to $5.

At $5 per token, accumulating 15,000 XRP would cost $75,000. For buyers who missed the sub-dollar accumulation phase, the math becomes significantly harder. “All those days of getting XRP at $0.40, $0.30 are over,” KingValeX said. He made clear that waiting for another dip to historical lows is not a viable strategy. The asset has already moved past that chapter.

The Accumulation Threshold

KingValeX set a minimum accumulation target of 50,000 tokens, with 20,000 as the absolute floor. He stated that buyers who fail to reach at least 20,000 XRP before the next rally will miss their opportunity permanently. He believes the correction to $5 will price most people out of meaningful accumulation, explaining why they need to accumulate tokens now.

His position is that the correction, while lower than the $14 peak, still represents a price level that eliminates the advantage early buyers held for years. The gap between $0.40 and $5 is not a dip. It is a structural shift in the cost to hold a significant position in XRP. Buyers who act before the rally preserve their ability to accumulate at prices that still carry upside potential relative to the projected targets.
