Someone suggested this as a possibility in reply to Farina.

Data Center Affiliation: The user could be operating the XRPL node from a data center that leases IP addresses from Google LLC or is situated within a facility linked to Google’s infrastructure. Data centers often have IP address ranges associated with their hosting provider.

For a partnership with a company as big as Google, we would expect an announcement like the recent announcement of Ripple’s partnership with Uphold. While the speculation is intriguing, nothing is definitive yet.

In addition, Amit Zavery, the Vice President and General Manager and Head of Platform at Google Cloud noted that the Google Cloud platform infrastructure service will initially accept cryptocurrency payments from a subset of customers in the Web3 world who would choose to pay for their services with any of the supported cryptocurrencies. He added that in the long run, Google will open up for more customers to make payments with cryptocurrency. 

Courtesy of this collaboration, Coinbase, the largest United States crypto exchange by trading volume is also planning to move its data-related applications to Google from the Amazon Web Services cloud, which the exchange has been relying on for several years, Jim Migdal, Coinbase’s vice president of business development revealed.

It is worth noting that the terms of this strategy deal between Google and Coinbase were not disclosed. However, Coinbase’s Vice President of Business, Jim Migdal indicated that the exchange will earn a percentage of transactions that go through its payment portal just like every other similar partnership.

Therefore, it is a mutually beneficial collaboration as this development would likely position Google Cloud for greater adoption ahead of its competitors, especially from crypto-supported organizations.

Meanwhile, it is said that Google considered other platforms that facilitate crypto payments like PayPal but Amit Zavery asserted that Coinbase had the greatest capabilities.

While the Merge is expected to occur within September 13-15, according to Vitalik Buterin, Google has added a countdown feature to enable users to track the execution of the upgrade. Google Cloud developer, Sam Padilla, stated in a tweet that everyone is excited about the many benefits Ethereum blockchain has brought to the crypto industry. 

He tweeted, “hey Vitalik Buterin, Justin Drake, and other Ethereum folks, go google “the merge” for a fun little surprise & appreciation. Everyone is so excited for what is coming and appreciative of the work that has been going into this for years.”

Google Adds Merge Countdown

Ethereum (ETH) Merge is set to transition the largest smart contract platform to proof-of-stake (PoS). Particularly, the Merge will reduce Ethereum’s energy consumption by approximately 99.95%. 

To show support for the upcoming upgrade, Google has added a feature that shows a countdown for the Merge event. To track the forthcoming upgrade via Google, you can either type the words ‘Ethereum Merge’ or ‘The Merge’ on Google’s search bar. A real-time countdown then appears and is estimated based on difficulty and hash rate.

At the time of writing, Google shows that Ethereum (ETH) merge is set to happen in 2 days 9 hrs 52 mins. It also showed the current difficulty of 58567730 P, hashrate of 857 TH/s while the Merge Difficulty is 58750000 P, at press time.

Meanwhile, the final upgrade before the merge, Bellatrix was officially activated on September 6. While several top exchanges have announced support for the planned development, a top bank in Switzerland SEBA Bank has launched Ethereum staking for institutional clients.
