]]> There is an indication of a decrease in the number of large holders of Ethereum (ETH), the second-largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization, according to the latest report.

Glassnodes, the platform that monitors movements of on-chain metrics of certain cryptocurrencies, Ethereum is seeing a notable decrease in large holders of ETH. The on-chain report shows it’s currently at a level last seen two years ago.

Glassnode specifically stated that Ethereum addresses holding over 10,000 ETH has now dropped to 1,082.

The latest scenario indicates that there has been a drastic decrease in the number of Ethereum whales over the last two years. This could either imply that large holders are selling off their assets due to the lethargic growth of ETH over the same period or they are sharing their assets into smaller addresses.

Ethereum on Exchanges Just Reached 5-Year Low

A similar but positive report from Glassnodes has stated that Ethereum (ETH) has been flowing out of exchanges in numbers over the past 5 years.

According to Glassnodes, ETH on exchanges is currently at a 5-year low of 14,740,830.732 ETH. The platform added that the previous 5-year low of 14,741,838.489 ETH was observed on the 25th of August. This implies that about 1,007 ETH were moved away from exchanges over the last 24 hours.

Glassnodes tweeted, “Ethereum ETH Balance on Exchanges just reached a 5-year low of 14,740,830.732 ETH. Previous 5-year low of 14,741,838.489 ETH was observed on 25 August 2023.”

It’s generally known that is a positive fundament for an asset being continuously moved out of exchanges to self-hosted wallets. This certainly reduces the chances of being sold off on the open market.

So, the continuous movement of Ethereum (ETH) out of exchanges is an indication of an increase in trust by most investors, which is good for its future price trajectory.

Although the digital asset’s price trend has been lethargic in recent months, both technical and fundamental indicators are bullish. Also, most analysts and pundits remain resolute that the market will soon bolster for the second-largest cryptocurrency.

At the time of filing this report, ETH is trading at $1649, with a slight change in price in the last 24 hours, according to CoinMarketCap.

According to the data provided by the crypto intelligence firm, IntoTheBlock, 70.4 million addresses are currently holding ETH and 18.6 million of these addresses were created in 2021.

The firm concluded by stating that the Ethereum network now grows at the pace of 1.53 million addresses per month. A massive growth rate indeed.

IntoTheBlock tweeted, “Ethereum users growth in a nutshell. A good way to track the adoption is by following the number of addresses with a balance. There are 70.4m addresses holding $ETH. Just in 2021, it increased 18.36m. That means the network was growing at a pace of 1.53m addresses per month.”

Number of Ethereum Addresses Holding at least 1 ETH Reaches All-Time High

It’s well known that crypto bag holders have taken the advantage of the recent market dip to increase their Ethereum holdings, as thousands of ETH continue to move from various exchanges to unknown wallets.

Whales are not the only one taking the advantage of the market dip, retail investors are also increasing their ETH holdings.

Fresh data from the on-chain analytics platform, Glassnode, shows that the number of addresses holding at least 1 ETH has set a new all-time record, a height that indicates the increase in the adoption of the second-largest cryptocurrency by market cap.

Glassnode tweeted, “Ethereum ETH Number of Addresses Holding 1+ Coins just reached an ATH of 1,423,855. Previous ATH of 1,421,792 was observed on 05 February 2022.”

Total Value Locked In Ethereum 2.0 Deposit Contract Just Attained a New High

In another data shared by Glasssnode, it’s revealed that the amount locked in Ethereum 2.0 deposit contract just hit a new all-time high of 9,213,714, worth relatively $24 billion at current prices.

This figure denotes that relatively 8% of the Ethereum (ETH) current total supply is now staked in the consensus layer (ETH 2.0) deposit contract.

Glassnode tweeted, “Ethereum $ETH Total Value in the ETH 2.0 Deposit Contract just reached an ATH of 9,213,714 ETH.”

Also, the increase in the number of unique depositors, validators, and the ETH balance on the Ethereum 2.0 deposit contract is an indication that investors and the community are long-term bullish on the cryptocurrency.

According to data provided by Santiment, Ethereum whales decided to buy the dip by grabbing nearly $500 million worth of ETH some hours ago.

Going by the on-chain analytics firm, ETH whale addresses holding 10,000 or more coins have added 200,000 ETH from weak hands since Jan. 20, representing the largest accumulation in two months.

Ethereum Foundation Rebrands the Terms ETH 2.0 and ETH 1.0

According to Ethereum Foundation in a recent blog post, the terms Ethereum 1.0 (Eth1) and Ethereum 2.0 (Eth2) have been phased out in favor of “execution layer” and “consensus layer” respectively.

In the blog post, it’s claimed that core developers stopped using the terminology from late 2021, preferring “execution layer” and “consensus layer.”

Ethereum Foundation highlighted further that the combination of the “execution layer” and “consensus layer” is known as Ethereum. The foundation said this change in terminology changes nothing in the roadmap to the major upgrade.

According to the on-chain data provided by Glassnode, the number of Ethereum addresses with a non-zero balance has reached an all-time high of 71,364,788, as of 29th December 2021.

Glassnode tweeted, “Ethereum ETH Number of Non-Zero Addresses just reached an ATH of 71,364,788.”

What Could Be the Reason for the Increase?

Although Ethereum price action can be attributed to the notable increase in the number of addresses with non-zero balance, the surge can also be linked to the rate at which the smart contracts platform is being used in the booming sectors such as decentralized finance (DeFi) and non-fungible tokens (NFTs).

At the moment, the Ethereum network is obviously dominating the DeFi sector. The Network currently accounts for 62% of the total DeFi value locked.

The rising active Ethereum addresses might also point to more investors accumulating the asset in anticipation of a bull rally. This argument is partly backed by the fact that more Ethereum is increasingly being moved from various exchanges.

ETH Total Value Locked in Ethereum 2.0 Deposit Contract Hits All-Time High

Glassnode has also reported that the total value locked in the Ethereum 2.0 deposit contract has just reached a new all-time high of 8,820,802 ETH worth 32.5 Billion at current prices.

Glassnode tweeted, “Ethereum ETH Total Value in the ETH 2.0 Deposit Contract just reached an ATH of 8,820,802 ETH.”

The number is seen as an indication of the Ethereum community’s commitment toward the success of the much-awaited transition to proof-of-stake (PoS) consensus algorithm.

]]> Twitter, the widely used microblogging platform, seems to be testing the incorporation of cryptocurrency features, such as Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH) addresses, to its tip Jar service.

This was revealed on Twitter a couple of hours ago by Alessandro Paluzzi, a mobile developer who claims to have reverse-engineered the feature.

Paluzzi accompanied the update with screenshots that display interfaces that will enable users to add their Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH) addresses to their profiles. A notice is written under each prompt as follows: “People will send payments to the [Bitcoin or Ethereum] address you’ve entered above.”

According to the mobile developer, the newly proposed feature is meant to enable users to receive tips in cryptocurrency via the Tip Jar feature. The service will allow Twitter users to send funds seamlessly to other accounts.

Alessandro Paluzzi tweeted, “Twitter is working to allow you to add your Bitcoin and Ethereum address to your profile to receive tips via the Tip Jar feature. It is not necessary to link a Strike account to add them to your profile.”

Jack Dorsey Hinted At This Back in July

Jack Dorsey, the CEO of Twitter, had hinted at a possible integration of Bitcoin (BTC) with the proposed Tip Jar service back in July.

Although the news shared by Paluzzi is still unofficial, Twitter’s product lead, Kayvon Beykpour retweeted the post about the underway service on 1st September with the lighting and “soon” arrow emoji, proving the authenticity of the upcoming development.
