Over the past few years, fraudulent activity targeting cryptocurrency users has grown increasingly sophisticated. From unsolicited phone calls to convincing replicas of legitimate websites, scammers are continually refining their methods to extract sensitive information and digital assets.

James Rule (@RuleXRP), a cryptocurrency educator with seven years of experience in the industry, recently outlined the most prevalent scams encountered within the community. He reported receiving frequent accounts of victims losing funds to schemes that exploit fear, trust, and social engineering.

His cautionary remarks follow a series of incidents in which members of the XRP ecosystem, including high-profile figures such as Ripple’s Chief Technology Officer (CTO) David Schwartz, have intervened to expose fraudulent actors.

THE MOST COMMON CRYPTO SCAMS THAT I HAVE SEEN IN 7 YEARS.

Believe me, I get messages every week from the community telling me that they were scammed.

FEAR SCAMS: Texts, E-mails and Phone Calls from a fake exchange or wallet…

— James Rule XRP (@RuleXRP) August 9, 2025

Fear-Based Manipulation Tactics

One of the most common scams relies on inducing panic. Targets receive texts, emails, or calls from individuals posing as representatives of major exchanges or wallet providers, such as Coinbase or Ledger, claiming that their accounts have been compromised.

These communications often direct users to fraudulent websites designed to harvest login credentials, passwords, and recovery phrases. Some messages even provide a “help” phone number, which connects directly to the scammer.

Impersonation scams are a big problem in the crypto space, and according to James, criminals have begun sending physical letters that mimic official correspondence from wallet manufacturers, complete with QR codes intended to lure recipients into compromising their accounts.

False Promises of Cryptocurrency Giveaways

Another recurring scam involves fraudulent giveaways. James emphasized that Ripple will never distribute XRP for free in exchange for deposits or payments. Scammers often promote these schemes through fake social media accounts or impersonations of public figures, misleading victims into sending cryptocurrency or cash to unverified wallets.

We are on X, follow us to connect with us :- @TimesTabloid1

— TimesTabloid (@TimesTabloid1) June 15, 2025

Once transferred, the funds are impossible to recover. Ripple has reiterated that it will never ask the community to send XRP, and the same rule applies to its executives, as scams impersonating them are prominent.

Deceptive Social Media and Self-Custody Risks

Scammers often impersonate help desks, advisers, or content creators on social media, contacting users through comments or direct messages. Some offer unsolicited assistance to gain trust. James advises verifying identities independently and remaining “very cautious” online.

The rule also emphasized that Self-custody wallets require strict security. Seed or recovery phrases, whether 12 or 24 words, must never be shared as wallets cannot be recovered once compromised.

Maintaining vigilance is essential. He advised crypto holders to ignore unknown calls, delete suspicious texts, and avoid clicking links or scanning QR codes from unverified sources. As James stressed, the safest approach is simple: never trust anyone without absolute confirmation of their legitimacy.

A recent post by crypto trader Ash Crypto has sparked widespread debate after revealing an extraordinary profit from an early investment in JellyJelly, a meme coin launched by Venmo founder Sam Lessin

Blockchain data shows that a trader turned $1,592 into $1 million in just three hours by buying the token early. This massive return has led to speculation about whether the trader was lucky or had insider knowledge.

WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK ??

SOMEONE TURNED $1,500 INTO
$1 MILLION IN JUST 3 HOURS BY
BUYING JELLYJELLY EARLY.

Market Reactions and Community Concerns

The crypto community had mixed reactions to this trade, with many warning about the risks of blindly chasing such gains. Some traders pointed out that these posts often fuel FOMO (fear of missing out), causing inexperienced investors to rush into volatile meme coins without proper research.

Others expressed concern that newcomers to the space, especially those influenced by recent mainstream attention, could end up losing significant amounts of money by following similar strategies.

Another growing concern is the impact of sudden surges in meme coin investments. Many new investors, excited by stories of overnight millionaires, may unknowingly buy into projects at inflated prices, only to see their investments collapse just as quickly. This pattern has played out repeatedly in past meme coin cycles, leaving many retail traders with significant losses.

Is This Insider Trading?

A major point of discussion surrounding this trade is whether the trader had prior knowledge about JellyJelly’s launch. Some in the community believe that making such a return within minutes of a token launch suggests insider access.

The argument is that someone not involved in the project would have found it nearly impossible to buy at the perfect time and scale their investment so quickly.

We are on twitter, follow us to connect with us :- @TimesTabloid1

— TimesTabloid (@TimesTabloid1) July 15, 2023

Looking at the blockchain data, the trader made only four buy transactions before cashing out across 123 sales, turning a small initial investment into a seven-figure profit. This kind of rapid execution suggests either deep experience trading new launches or direct knowledge of the token’s potential before it became widely known.

The Risks of Meme Coin Speculation

Whether this was an insider move or an exceptionally well-timed trade, it highlights the high-risk nature of meme coin investments. While some traders secure massive gains, most participants in these markets end up on the losing side. Meme coins often experience extreme volatility, with prices surging and crashing within hours.

Traders should cautiously approach these opportunities, understanding that for every overnight millionaire, thousands of others suffer heavy losses. Blockchain transparency allows the community to analyze these trades, but it doesn’t always clarify whether profits were earned fairly or through insider advantages.

The cryptocurrency community has again been warned to remain vigilant against scammers targeting digital asset users. Ripple Chief Technology Officer (CTO) David Schwartz recently shared an example of a phishing email designed to impersonate Coinbase.

The fraudulent email attempts to deceive recipients into updating their account details via a malicious link, potentially compromising their sensitive information.

Scam Warning: If you see an email that looks like this, it's a scam. pic.twitter.com/klneRy7dor

— David "JoelKatz" Schwartz (@JoelKatz) January 11, 2025

Increasing Scam Attempts in 2025

Scam campaigns have plagued the cryptocurrency space for years, with scammers exploiting unsuspecting users by imitating trusted platforms. This warning from Schwartz follows other scam attempts reported in late 2024, indicating that malicious actors ramp up their efforts as the new year begins.

The broader crypto community has shown appreciation for figures like Schwartz, who regularly alert users to such dangers. One community member, BankXRP (@BankXRP), stated, “It’s really great that you do this David along with some of the other large X accounts to help protect the community.”

Ripple has historically taken a strong stance against scams. In early 2024, Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse publicly criticized platforms such as X and YouTube for allowing scam-related content to proliferate, as both platforms hosted XRP scams as ads.

While these platforms have made efforts to address the issue, scammers continue to find ways to bypass detection mechanisms.

XRP Community Response to Schwartz’s Warning

Community members have also shared advice on how to avoid falling victim to scams. One user emphasized the importance of exercising caution with email links, saying, “I make it a practice to never use links sent in emails unless I’ve just requested it.”

He noted that this practice helps avoid scam emails, as scammers are becoming increasingly sophisticated and it is harder to tell them apart from real emails. Others echoed similar sentiments, urging users to verify communication authenticity directly through official channels.

We are on twitter, follow us to connect with us :- @TimesTabloid1

How To Stay Safe

The phishing email shared by Schwartz reflects a common tactic in these scams. It mimics the branding and tone of legitimate companies, creating a false sense of urgency to manipulate recipients into acting hastily. The email claims that users need to update their account details, directing them to click on a link that likely leads to a malicious website.

Experts recommend several precautions to safeguard against phishing and other fraudulent schemes. First, users should never click on unsolicited links or attachments in emails, even if the sender appears legitimate.

Instead, they should navigate to the official website by manually entering the URL into their browser. Second, enabling two-factor authentication (2FA) on accounts adds additional security.

The scam attempts have become more frequent since the start of the new year, and as scams become increasingly sophisticated, community awareness remains a crucial defense.

The cryptocurrency community, particularly XRP holders, has been cautioned about the rising sophistication of scams targeting digital asset users.

John Deaton, a prominent crypto lawyer and advocate for XRP holders, issued a stern warning through an X post, urging individuals to enhance their online security measures and remain vigilant against evolving fraud tactics.

Scammers Manipulate Fear and Urgency

Deaton drew attention to the growing danger of scams, which often exploit users’ emotions, such as fear and urgency, to deceive them into making mistakes.

Sharing a personal experience from two years ago, Deaton explained how malicious actors had compromised his home WiFi network, impersonated the crypto platform Uphold, and attempted to trick him into sharing sensitive information.

He noted that scammers frequently use tactics that create panic, such as sending urgent messages claiming an account has been locked. This pressure often leads victims to act hastily, clicking on phishing links or revealing private credentials.

“Scammers hijacked my personal WiFi network and created fake interactions, impersonating Uphold to manipulate me,” Deaton said. His account highlights how advanced these schemes have become, emphasizing the need for users to exercise extreme caution when interacting with unsolicited communications online.

Strengthening Security Practices

To protect against these threats, Deaton underscored the importance of implementing robust security measures. He advised users to activate two-factor authentication for all accounts and avoid sharing passwords, seed phrases, or private keys under any circumstances.

He also urged the community to remain skeptical of emails, pop-ups, and phone calls that seem suspicious or demand immediate action. “Be suspicious of all unsolicited emails, particularly those creating panic and calling for immediate action,” Deaton emphasized.

We are on twitter, follow us to connect with us :- @TimesTabloid1

Vigilance and Verification Are Essential

Deaton encouraged users to verify the authenticity of any communication claiming to come from official platforms. By being vigilant and questioning the legitimacy of such interactions, individuals can significantly reduce their risk of falling victim to scams.

In his personal experience, the attackers had gone to great lengths to gain his trust. They not only sent emails impersonating Uphold’s customer support but also created a fake “account locked” message on his computer screen and followed up with a phone call. Assuming he was not skeptical, the outcome could have been disastrous.

Deaton’s warning aligns with broader concerns within the cryptocurrency community about the prevalence of scams. Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse recently addressed the issue in a post on X, condemning scammers’ activities as deplorable and harmful to the industry.

Education and Awareness Are Key

The incident reminds XRP holders and the broader crypto community to remain informed about potential threats. Taking proactive steps to secure one’s assets and staying aware of the latest scam tactics are essential to safely navigating the digital asset space.

By sharing his story, Deaton aims to empower users to recognize and avoid these schemes, ensuring their funds and personal information remain secure.

The cryptocurrency community has again fallen victim to an alarming rise in online scams, particularly targeting XRP investors.

As XRP continues to perform well, fraudsters leverage its popularity to deceive unsuspecting users. A recent incident highlights this troubling trend, with scammers impersonating prominent figures in the crypto world to lure victims.

Amelie (@_Crypto_Barbie), a cryptocurrency influencer on X, recently shared a warning regarding fake giveaways falsely attributed to Brad Garlinghouse, the CEO of Ripple. These fraudulent posts, cleverly designed to appear legitimate, promote a fake initiative involving the recent launch of RLUSD, Ripple’s stablecoin.

SCAM ALERT

THIS SCAM IS SPREAD MULTIPLE TIMES AMONG ALL INFLUENCER POSTS AND IT IS A CLEAR SCAM!

PLEASE ALWAYS REMEMBER THAT NO ONE EVER IS GIVING YOU #XRP FOR FREE!

REPOST TO SHARE THE MESSAGE! THIS SH*T NEEDS TO GET STOPPED! pic.twitter.com/nR2XVzjgTl

— 𝓐𝓶𝓮𝓵𝓲𝓮 (@_Crypto_Barbie) December 20, 2024

The Tactics of These Scammers

The fraudsters behind these scams rely on subtle tactics to deceive their audience. For instance, they create accounts that mimic names and profile images of prominent individuals.

In this case, the scammers misspelled Garlinghouse’s name, omitting the letter “I,” making the discrepancy difficult to detect. These posts are often accompanied by convincing visuals and elaborate captions for legitimacy.

We are on twitter, follow us to connect with us :- @TimesTabloid1

— TimesTabloid (@TimesTabloid1) July 15, 2023

Garlinghouse has previously criticized platforms like YouTube and X for failing to address the proliferation of cryptocurrency scams. His frustration resonates with the broader crypto community, which continues to struggle with a surge in fraudulent activities across various social media platforms.

The scam’s message claims that Ripple intends to distribute 100 million XRP to investors because of RLUSD’s launch, and promises rewards to loyal participants. Such posts are designed to exploit the excitement surrounding legitimate developments in Ripple’s ecosystem, preying on users who may not exercise sufficient caution when engaging with these posts.

Amelie emphasized the importance of vigilance in her post. Her comments serve as a critical reminder to the community to remain skeptical of offers that seem too good to be true. She noted that no one was giving out free XRP, as the desire to earn profit without investing often drives people to fall for these scams.

How to Stay Safe in the Crypto Market

To protect yourself from falling victim to such schemes, it is crucial to verify the authenticity of any promotional offers. Always double-check the legitimacy of social media accounts, particularly when they claim to represent prominent figures or organizations. Additionally, avoid clicking on links or providing personal information to unverified sources.

Ripple Chief Technology Officer (CTO) David Schwartz recently exposed another sophisticated scam, and prominent voices in the market are constantly on the lookout, exposing scammers to the public and protecting investors.

The Shiba Inu (SHIB) community is facing a wave of misinformation and potential scams surrounding the highly anticipated TREAT token.

In a bid to sensitize the Shiba Inu ecosystem, Shibarmy Scam Alerts, a dedicated resource for protecting the community, has issued an urgent warning in a post on X. The alert stresses that TREAT has not been officially released and any claims of a launch are false.

Read Also: Shiba Inu Team Shares Development Update of a Groundbreaking SHIB Project

To protect investors, the Shiba Inu community is asked to exercise caution and refrain from engaging in any transactions or investments related to TREAT until legitimate sources confirm its release.

Community members are further urged to rely on credible information sources like the Shiba Inu development team and exercise heightened vigilance to safeguard their assets from potential scams exploiting the excitement around TREAT.

SHIB’s Rising Trajectory: Exploring Positive Updates

The urgency of this alert stems from Shiba Inu’s recent momentum. The project successfully secured $12 million from strategic venture capital partners, led by Cypher Capital, to fund the development of its upcoming Fully Homomorphic Encryption (FHE) blockchain.

This next-generation blockchain will be powered by the TREAT token. FHE technology is equipped to revolutionize privacy and trust within cryptocurrency by allowing computations on encrypted data.

Adding to the project’s positive trajectory, Shiba Inu’s decentralized exchange (DEX), ShibaSwap, has made a successful transition from the Ethereum blockchain to Shibarium. This migration marks a significant evolution for ShibaSwap, facilitating new capabilities and driving continued innovation on the Shibarium network.

Shiba Inu’s Ecosystem Prepares for Shibarium’s Hard Fork

While the community awaits official confirmation and safe release of the TREAT token, the Shiba Inu ecosystem is gearing up for another pivotal moment: a significant upgrade of the Shibarium network. The upcoming Shibarium hard fork promises a range of enhancements designed to optimize the network’s performance.

A key focus is accelerating transaction processing speeds, leading to faster confirmations for users. Additionally, the hard fork seeks to stabilize transaction fees, especially during peak network usage. This will help prevent unexpected fee spikes, making the network more cost-effective and accessible for a wider range of users.

The Shiba Inu community’s dedication and enthusiasm are vital to the project’s success. By prioritizing accurate information and exercising vigilance, members can safeguard their investments while contributing to the safe and sustainable growth of the Shiba Inu ecosystem.

Ripple, the major distributor of XRP, has issued an urgent warning in a post on X to its community about a rise in sophisticated scams preying on XRP holders.

These fraudulent schemes often center around false claims of XRP giveaways or abuse the image of Ripple’s CEO, Brad Garlinghouse. Scammers are even utilizing advanced deepfake technology to create deceptive videos and social media posts designed to appear legitimate.

BREAKING: @Ripple will never ask you to send us XRP. Ever.
Neither will Brad, David, Monica, Stu, or anyone from Ripple.

— Ripple (@Ripple) April 11, 2024

Read Also: XRP Holders Are Warned To Avoid This XRP Giveaway

The goal of these scams is simple: to trick XRP holders into sending their cryptocurrency or revealing sensitive login information. Scammers employ several tactics, including impersonating Ripple or its executives through carefully crafted social media accounts, emails, and websites.

They’ll frequently promote offers of free XRP, falsely claiming to have partnerships with Ripple or endorsements from Brad Garlinghouse. Additionally, phishing attacks – where fraudulent communications aim to steal login credentials – are common.

In extreme cases, scammers may even launch seemingly promising cryptocurrency projects only to vanish with investors’ funds in what’s known as an exit scam or “rug pull.”

How to Spot and Avoid Scams

Ripple emphasizes in the crucial message that it will never ask holders to send their XRP. Any such request, regardless of how convincing it may seem, should be treated as a scam.

The company stresses the importance of verifying all information related to Ripple through official websites or social media channels – even minor misspellings could be a sign of fraud. Extreme skepticism about unexpected offers of free cryptocurrency is also key, as these rarely deliver on their promises.

Ripple’s Fight Against Scams

In a recent blog post, Ripple stated it is actively confronting this threat by proactively monitoring for fraudulent activity, educating their community about scam tactics, and collaborating with other industry players to share information and improve prevention efforts.

Additional steps users can take to protect themselves include the use of browsers with enhanced security features, carefully researching any cryptocurrency project before investing, and being wary of any offer that seems suspicious. Remember, trust is a valuable commodity that scammers seek to exploit.

If you suspect you’ve encountered a scam, report it to Ripple and the relevant authorities. Staying informed and vigilant is the best way to safeguard your assets and support the integrity of the XRP community.

The Shiba Inu community is on high alert after their scam alert channel, Shibarmy Scam Alerts, identified a scheme targeting investors with fake airdrops of K9 Finance’s KNINE token.

Malicious actors are capitalizing on the recent surge in popularity surrounding KNINE, the native token of K9 Finance DAO, a project partnered with Shiba Inu. This fraudulent activity seeks to exploit the excitement among investors and steal their cryptocurrency.

SHIBARMY WARNING:@X

More fake reward claim sites/groups

There is no rewards program and K9 does not have any airdrops for you to claim , so please don't connect your wallet to any sites to gain these airdrops/ rewards.

Stay safe shibarmy and keep your eyes open ..… pic.twitter.com/UacEeNgzc8

— Shibarmy Scam Alerts (@susbarium) March 28, 2024

Fake Reward Sites: A Threat Lurking Online

Shibarmy Scam Alerts has identified fake KNINE airdrop websites designed to steal investors’ crypto holdings. These deceptive platforms masquerade as legitimate reward programs, promising free KNINE tokens. Unsuspecting users who connect their wallets to these sites unwittingly grant scammers access to their funds, resulting in substantial financial losses.

K9 Finance is a Shiba Inu partner aiming to launch a liquid staking platform on Shibarium, Shiba Inu’s layer-2 blockchain solution. Earlier in March, the K9 Finance team introduced KNINE on Uniswap, a decentralized cryptocurrency exchange. The token’s price experienced a significant rise, exceeding 200% shortly after its debut.

It’s crucial to emphasize that K9 Finance does not currently offer any airdrop or reward program for its KNINE token. Shibarmy Scam Alerts strongly urges Shiba Inu and K9 Finance communities to exercise extreme caution and refrain from connecting their wallets to any suspicious websites claiming to distribute KNINE tokens.

Sample Hoax Unveiled

To further illustrate the deceptive tactics employed by scammers, Shibarmy Scam Alerts shared an example of a fake KNINE airdrop. This particular scheme entices users with a fabricated promise to distribute $400,000 worth of KNINE tokens.

The scam website includes a link where users are instructed to connect their wallets to supposedly receive the airdropped tokens. However, connecting a wallet to this platform grants the scammers complete control, enabling them to steal the user’s cryptocurrency holdings.

The Shiba Inu and K9 Finance teams have consistently prioritized investor safety by issuing warnings regarding KNINE. Notably, before the official KNINE launch, K9 Finance DAO founder Buzz cautioned investors against purchasing the token on any platform before the designated release date. This proactive measure aimed to prevent investors from falling victim to scammers attempting to sell counterfeit KNINE tokens before the official launch.

K9 Finance Token’s Price Fluctuation

Following its launch on March 7th, the price of KNINE surged dramatically, reaching an all-time high (ATH) of $0.0003543 just a few days later on March 11th. This represented a staggering 700% increase. Since then, the price of KNINE has experienced a correction, currently trading at $0.00009513, reflecting a 72.7% decrease from its ATH.

Remaining vigilant and adhering to official announcements from trusted sources like Shiba Inu and K9 Finance are critical steps towards protecting your digital assets.

Ripple’s Chief Technology Officer, David Schwartz, has sounded the alarm about a dangerous scam preying on former users of the now-defunct FTX crypto exchange. As FTX moves closer to partially repaying customers, scammers are exploiting the situation to defraud unsuspecting individuals.

The Scam Tactic

In a post on X, Schwartz explains that many former FTX customers are receiving fraudulent emails. These emails claim the user must take immediate action to secure their claim against the bankrupt exchange.

Read Also: Ascending Triangle Forming On XRP Chart: Top Chartist Sees a Rocket Surge to $3.7

Scammers use manipulative tactics, playing on a victim’s fear of losing out, and often ask users to connect their crypto wallets for “verification” or to expedite their claim process. This is a ploy to steal funds.

There are some scam emails circulating claiming that you need to do something about your FTX claim. Don't use the links in those emails. You can check the status of your claim at the official portal:https://t.co/4AvGkii3kh

— David "JoelKatz" Schwartz (@JoelKatz) March 21, 2024

Protect Yourself

The Ripple CTO has provided an official link to the FTX claims page to help users combat this scam. This page provides information on checking your claim status, viewing your FTX account balances, and procedures for submitting claims (though the deadline for this has passed)

Remember, the official FTX claims deadline was September 29, 2023, the exchange is currently working to process claims and liquidate assets to facilitate repayments. Ripple itself reportedly holds $11 million in claims with the FTX bankruptcy estate.

Schwartz: A Vigilant Advocate for the XRP Community

This is not the first time David Schwartz has proactively warned users about potential scams within the cryptocurrency space. Earlier this year, Schwartz, on X, warned users of malicious links attempting to steal NFTs from OpenSea users.

We are on twitter, follow us to connect with us :- @TimesTabloid1

Last year, he also raised an alarm on fake airdrops falsely claiming to be linked to Ripple’s potential victory in its legal battle with the SEC.

Schwartz noted, “A lot of scammers are taking advantage of the recent good news to try to cheat and steal. There are no airdrops, giveaways, or special offers associated with this ruling.” These instances show how determined he is to protect the XRP community from bad actors.

It’s crucial to exercise extreme caution when navigating the cryptocurrency landscape. Remain skeptical of any guarantees of extraordinary returns. Thoroughly research projects, safeguard your private keys, and never transfer funds to untrusted sources. By prioritizing due diligence and secure practices, you can better protect yourself from potential scams.

Participants in the Shiba Inu ecosystem, encompassing holders of SHIB, BONE, and LEASH tokens, are urged to exercise caution following a critical security advisory concerning the Sheboshi NFT project. This warning aims to shield users from scams and protect their digital investments.

Shib Army Scam Alerts, a community-driven initiative dedicated to shielding Shiba Inu users from fraudulent schemes, has issued a vital caution that the claiming and minting of Sheboshi NFTs has officially concluded.

Read Also: SHIB News: SHEboshi Launch Boosts Hope, As Shibarium Transaction Surges

So, any platform or website offering opportunities for minting, claiming, or promoting airdrops related to Sheboshi should be approached with extreme caution as they may be potential scams.

SHIBARMY WARNING:@X

Please be clear there is NO MORE minting/claiming of Sheboshi this has ending any website or airdrop is fake/scam

Stay safe shibarmy and keep your eyes open ..

— Shibarmy Scam Alerts (@susbarium) February 27, 2024

Insight into Sheboshi NFTs

Introduced on February 20th, Sheboshis represent a collection of 20,000 distinct Shiba Inu-themed NFTs. These NFTs utilize the innovative DN-404/ERC-404 standard to bridge the gap between ERC-20 and ERC-721 token standards, providing advantages like liquidity and fractional ownership in the NFT realm.

Claiming Phases and Key Update

The initial Sheboshi release involved a three-phase claiming process:

– Phase 1: Reserved for original Shiboshi NFT holders to claim associated Sheboshis.
– Phase 2: Accessible to LEASH token holders.
– Phase 3: Public mint (canceled) – All remaining Sheboshis were sold out during Phase 2.

The Shiba Inu community must note that further minting or claiming Sheboshi NFTs is no longer possible. This information is vital to prevent users from falling prey to potential scams exploiting the project’s popularity.

Although the claiming phase has ended, the Sheboshi project continues its evolution. The recent unveiling of the token design sparked enthusiasm within the Shiba Inu community, with the SHEB token securing listings on six cryptocurrency platforms, according to CoinMarketCap.
