We’re moving into a world where value, money, and payments move like information already does on the Internet.”

That statement, made in 2016, captures a vision that is now materializing. Larsen noted that the global financial system has long been “siloed,” with payment networks that “don’t talk to each other.” 

This fragmentation, he explained, causes inefficiency for everyone; “from the poorest working-class consumer to the biggest global corporation.” Ripple’s mission has been to bridge these divides using blockchain technology, and XRP is the neutral asset enabling that bridge.

Ripple’s Expanding Role in Global Banking

In 2025, that early vision is closer than ever. Ripple’s application for a U.S. national trust bank charter represents a historic step. Approval would allow Ripple to operate as a fully regulated financial institution, integrating digital assets like XRP into mainstream banking infrastructure.

Meanwhile, the Federal Reserve’s “skinny master account” proposal could open payment rail access to fintechs such as Ripple. This would allow firms to settle transactions directly through the Fed — bypassing traditional intermediaries. If approved, it would put Ripple on par with established banks in terms of financial connectivity.

Institutional Integration and XRP Utility

Ripple’s ecosystem is also deepening through partnerships and institutional moves. Evernorth, a digital treasury firm with close ties to Ripple, recently announced plans to hold significant XRP reserves. The company aims to manage a corporate treasury anchored by XRP and pursue a potential public offering.

As Versan Aljarrah observed in his X post, this evolution could mark the replacement of legacy central banks and the Federal Reserve system. XRP holders, therefore, stand not as passive investors but as participants in a new, decentralized financial network.

Times Tabloid recently reported that the Japanese financial powerhouse SBI Holdings is among the firms backing Evernorth’s plan, having pledged $200 million. Ripple itself is expected to contribute around $300 million, while additional investors have committed a combined $645 million.

As part of his personal involvement, Chris Larsen donated 50 million XRP, valued at approximately $120 million, to the initiative. Following this transaction, Larsen’s personal XRP balance stands at roughly 2.5 billion tokens. These holdings trace back to the early days of the XRP Ledger (XRPL), when he and other co-founders received large token allocations after the network’s creation more than a decade ago.

Could Ripple Acquire Larsen’s Holdings?

The suggestion that Ripple might purchase Larsen’s XRP stems from the company’s interest in maintaining market stability and preventing future large-scale liquidations. Potential Implications for Ripple and the Market

Critics argue that such large-scale sales could negatively impact XRP’s price, with Maartunn suggesting that individual holders may be acting as “exit liquidity” for early investors, such as Larsen.

Like Ripple’s co-founders, Larsen received a large number of tokens at launch, and other executives, such as David Schwartz, who did not receive the same, still bought their tokens very early. This has led some to question the long-term commitment of Ripple’s leadership to the asset and its community, as they believe Ripple may be dumping XRP on the community.

XRP Army Stands Strong

Despite these concerns, multiple XRP advocates have defended the sale. By releasing large amounts of XRP into the market, early holders like Larsen contribute to greater liquidity, which can facilitate wider distribution and access to the asset.

Crypto Bitlord, who recently and accurately predicted the crypto market’s trajectory, weighed in, suggesting that allowing more XRP to circulate at lower prices benefits new investors by making the asset more affordable, viewing the sale as a favour rather than a betrayal.

Furthermore, XRP’s recent market performance remains strong. One commenter emphasized that XRP reached a new all-time high this month despite the sale, indicating that the broader market remains confident in the token’s value and potential.

Comparisons were also made to other high-profile asset sales by company executives. One community member referenced historical stock sales by Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, noting that such moves are common among founders and do not necessarily signal loss of faith.

He argued that XRP’s market presence now exceeds that of any individual, including Larsen, making his recent activity less consequential in the grand scheme.

Liim’s post comes at a time when market participants are once again evaluating the long-term value proposition of XRP.

Liim calculated that if XRP were to reach $10, Ripple’s escrow holdings would be valued at $362.08 billion. He also projected that Chris Larsen’s XRP holdings would surge to $26.43 billion. He noted that while Ripple did not create XRP, large amounts of the token were distributed to the company and its founders in its early stages.

Ripple’s Escrow Strategy

Ripple committed in 2017 to locking up the majority of its XRP in escrow, setting up monthly releases of 1 billion XRP to provide market transparency and prevent sudden surges in available supply. Through this structured approach, Ripple retains control of the largest portion of XRP, giving the company significant exposure to any future price increase.

Liim emphasized this fact, noting that both Ripple and Larsen could benefit tremendously if XRP appreciates significantly. By December 2024, Larsen’s net worth had surged by almost $6 billion, due to XRP’s growth after Donald Trump’s election victory. The asset’s price kept climbing until January, adding more to the co-founder’s net worth, and Liim expects a similar situation to play out soon.

Analysts Expect Significant Growth

Liim cited analyst DK64Trades, who recently suggested that XRP could break above $10 in the current market cycle. This assessment was based on technical signals from the XRP dominance chart, which measures XRP’s market share relative to the rest of the crypto market.

According to Liim’s data, XRP has a maximum supply of 100 billion tokens. Of that, 63.76 billion XRP are in circulation, with another 36.2 billion locked in escrow.

Positive News for Ripple and Chris Larsen

Liim’s summary highlighted the massive value shift that could occur with a price rise to $10. He estimated that Ripple’s escrow would grow in value by $285 billion and Chris Larsen’s holdings by $20 billion compared to current valuations.
