Ripple President Monica Long Announces Two Key Ripple Payment Expansions

On February 11, 2025, crypto influencer JackTheRippler (@RippleXrpie) shared an update regarding Ripple’s expansion into Portugal.

The post featured a statement from Ripple President Monica Long, who announced two key developments: Ripple Payments’ entry into Portugal and the strengthening of the Brazil-Portugal payment corridor.

Long’s announcement emphasized that Portuguese financial institution Unicâmbio had joined Ripple’s network, becoming its first client in Portugal. She also noted that the expansion would bolster Ripple’s existing partnerships with Travelex Bank and Mercado Bitcoin in Brazil.

Ripple’s Strategic Move into Portugal

Ripple’s official account confirmed the company’s entry into Portugal, adding to the company’s long list of global partners and marking a significant milestone. The announcement highlighted Unicâmbio’s role as the country’s leading currency exchange provider and its adoption of Ripple’s payment solutions for near-instant fund transfers between Portugal and Brazil.

“Planting the Ripple flag in Portugal today with Unicâmbio, our first Portuguese client,” the statement read. Ripple also emphasized that corporate customers would benefit from faster and more cost-effective international transactions.

Strengthening the Brazil-Portugal Corridor

The inclusion of Unicâmbio into Ripple’s payment network directly impacts financial transactions between Portugal and Brazil. The Brazil-Portugal corridor is an important market for trade and remittances, and Ripple’s integration aims to enhance efficiency by leveraging digital asset technology.

A Coundesk report on the partnership highlighted comments from Cassie Craddock, Managing Director for the UK and Europe at Ripple. She stated, “Portugal has developed a thriving crypto ecosystem so we are delighted to open up our payments solution to partners there.”

She added that connecting Ripple’s networks in both countries would facilitate “faster, more cost-effective cross-border payments,” while enhancing economic ties between these two major markets

Ripple’s Technology and Future Growth

Ripple has made multiple significant strides over the past few months. The company launched RLUSD in December, has become one of the most influential crypto companies in the U.S., and is now expanding its international partnerships. By partnering with Unicâmbio, Ripple is entering the Portuguese market and laying the foundation for future expansion in Europe.

More doors are also opening up across the globe, as recent reports suggest that SBI Group, one of Japan’s biggest banks, will soon integrate RLUSD into its digital ecosystem. With so many positive developments on the horizon, 2025 could be a phenomenal year for Ripple and XRP.
