Brazil’s regulated capital market infrastructure is taking a major step toward blockchain adoption as CSD BR begins using the XRP Ledger to mirror securities ownership records.
Ripple announced a partnership with CSD BR to bring regulated financial assets onchain, starting with BTG Pactual investment fund shares.
The initiative gives the XRP Ledger a role within Brazil’s existing securities infrastructure while CSD BR keeps its systems as the official source of record. The partnership allows CSD BR to test blockchain technology through live transactions without changing current registration, deposit, and settlement processes.
CSD BR manages more than BRL 22 trillion in registered assets and can process millions of transactions within minutes. Through the partnership, the organization will evaluate how blockchain technology can improve transparency, traceability, automation, and operational efficiency.

XRP Ledger Will Mirror BTG Pactual Fund Shares
During the first phase, CSD BR will tokenize BTG Pactual investment fund shares deposited within its infrastructure and mirror those assets on the XRP Ledger using the Multi-Purpose Token standard.
The XRP Ledger will provide an additional layer for querying and auditing financial records. Authorized participants will use the blockchain to verify record consistency transparently and in near real time. CSD BR will continue to maintain the official records and control the registration, deposit, and settlement of the assets.
Ripple will provide custody infrastructure alongside the XRP Ledger to support the tokenized assets within a regulated environment. The platform will operate on a permissioned basis for corporate and banking clients in Brazil that satisfy Know Your Customer and anti-money laundering requirements.
CSD BR will retain control over key governance functions. The organization will authorize participants, freeze individual assets when necessary, and reverse transactions when regulatory or judicial orders require such action.
Partnership Targets Further Blockchain Expansion
CSD BR said the initial record-mirroring phase will allow the organization to evaluate blockchain technology under real operating conditions while keeping existing processes unchanged for investors, issuers and participants.
Ripple Managing Director for Latin America Silvio Pegado described the transition from blockchain pilots to live record-keeping infrastructure within a national capital market as an important development for the industry. He said the partnership demonstrates how financial institutions can incorporate distributed ledger technology within a regulated framework.

After CSD BR validates the mirroring phase, the partnership could expand blockchain use to native asset issuance and trading between authorized participants. The companies identified Real Estate Receivables Certificates and Agribusiness Receivables Certificates as potential assets for future phases.
The platform will also explore advanced confidentiality mechanisms to address financial-market privacy requirements. CSD BR and Ripple built the model to support additional asset classes, participants, and potentially international markets.
BTG Pactual will participate in the initial implementation of blockchain technology to invest in fund shares while preserving CSD BR’s official records and existing market processes.
