Ripple Has a Big Announcement for XRP Army

Ripple has shared a groundbreaking announcement on X. Aviva Investors has launched a tokenized share class for the Aviva Investors Sterling (GBP) Liquidity Fund on the XRP Ledger (XRPL). The fund holds approximately £22 billion in assets under management, making it the firm’s largest.

This is not an experiment. It is a live, regulated product available to eligible investors with digital wallets. The launch follows previous deals with Aviva Investors including the launch of its USD Liquidity Fund in July.

Two tokenized share classes now sit across Aviva Investors’ offerings, with over £86m ($116m) invested across both. Aviva itself has committed £50m ($66m) to the new Sterling share class.

How the Structure Works

The fund uses a “digital twin” model. Holdings are represented on-chain while the existing off-chain fund structure stays intact. The Bank of New York Mellon serves as custodian. Komainu, a regulated institutional digital asset custodian, and Licuido, a digital infrastructure platform which Ripple is invested in, support the share class.

The fund is an Ireland-domiciled UCITS Money Markets Fund. It targets low-risk returns and daily liquidity through exposure to high-grade UK Sterling-denominated short-term debt instruments. Investors receive the same regulatory protections as those in the conventional fund, which launched in 2002.

Why the XRP Ledger?

The XRPL enables fast, secure, and low-cost blockchain transactions. Since 2012, the network has processed more than 4 billion transactions, and it typically processes transactions in 3 to 5 seconds. It supports nearly 8 million active wallets and runs on 130+ independent validators. The network operates in an energy-efficient format.

Nigel Khakoo, Senior Vice President of Trading and Markets at Ripple, described the direction of travel: “Markets are moving to 24/7 access and settlement is moving to real-time, always-on rails.”

What it Means for XRP

Each tokenized fund share class on the XRPL increases real-world usage of the network. Aviva Investors is one of the largest tokenized MMF providers in Europe. Its presence on the XRPL signals institutional confidence in the ledger’s capabilities for regulated financial products.

Mark Versey, CEO of Aviva Investors, stated: “We believe tokenized funds can increase efficiency and ultimately lead to improved client outcomes.” More institutions choosing the XRPL for compliant, regulated products increases network activity and demonstrates the ledger’s readiness for institutional-grade finance.

The Road Ahead

Aviva Investors has now tokenized two funds in under four months. The pace is accelerating. Versey also noted the intent “to be a leader in this area” and referenced “a future expansion of our capabilities.”

The partnership with Ripple continues to develop. Real-time settlement and round-the-clock access are no longer aspirational.
