Ripple Developers Issue Critical Warning: Your XRP Is Becoming a Bigger Target

The XRP community is facing a serious and growing security threat. Scammers have developed more sophisticated methods, and major voices across the ecosystem are raising alarms.

The RippleX development team, the XRPL Foundation, Xaman wallet, and several prominent XRP commentators have all issued public warnings in recent months. CryptoSensei covered the full scope of these threats in a recent video.

RippleX Issues a Security Warning

The RippleX dev team posted a security PSA on August 6 warning the community directly. The post stated that “fake attempts and fake giveaway posts are becoming more common across X.”

One specific tool circulating online claims to help users discover or unlock forgotten XRP rewards through a wallet scan. RippleX confirmed it is not running such a tool. Any screenshot or post suggesting otherwise is fake.

How the Scams Work

Scammers no longer need a recovery phrase to drain a wallet. Malicious wallet-connect sites prompt users to sign a transaction under the guise of verifying identity, claiming a reward, or voting on a proposal.

One documented case involved a user losing 70,000 XRP, worth approximately $146,000 at the time, in a single unauthorized transaction confirmed on the XRP Ledger.

Fake support accounts are another major vector. Scammers monitor public posts from users asking for exchange or wallet help, then send unsolicited DMs posing as official support. Xaman wallet addressed this directly, telling the community, “We will never DM you, we will never email you, and we will never issue a token or an airdrop.”

AI is Making Impersonation More Dangerous

AI-manipulated video is now being used to impersonate figures like Brad Garlinghouse. CryptoSensei noted that scammers take real footage of recognized XRP figures, alter the audio, and overlay QR codes promoting fake giveaways.

One archived example from 2023 shows a convincing deepfake of Garlinghouse instructing viewers to send between 1,000 and 500,000 XRP to receive double back. These productions have grown more convincing since then.

South Korean authorities reported a case where scammers impersonating Flare Networks through a fake staking platform convinced 71 investors to deposit around $8.5 million in XRP. Three suspects were arrested, and one was placed on an Interpol red notice.

How to Protect Your XRP

Security across the XRP ecosystem consistently points to one practical measure: keep long-term holdings in a dedicated cold wallet that never connects to DeFi applications or third-party platforms. Use a separate wallet for any daily activity or protocol interactions.

Verify all accounts through official channels before clicking any link. Never sign a transaction you did not initiate, and treat all unsolicited messages as potential threats.
