Ripple CEO Recent Comment Puts David Schwartz As Real Satoshi Nakamoto

The true identity of Satoshi Nakamoto, the pseudonymous creator of Bitcoin, remains an enduring mystery. Recent comments by Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse have reignited speculation within the cryptocurrency community, particularly regarding David Schwartz, Ripple’s Chief Technology Officer.

Ripple CEO’s Remarks Spark Debate

During a podcast interview, Garlinghouse mentioned that some developers involved in creating the XRP Ledger (XRPL), the blockchain powering XRP, were also early engineers on the Bitcoin network. He further elaborated that these developers aimed to address scalability and energy consumption issues inherent in Bitcoin by building a more efficient digital asset.

These remarks by Garlinghouse triggered a wave of speculation, with many crypto enthusiasts pointing toward David Schwartz as the real Satoshi Nakamoto. Prominent figures like Abdullah “Abs” Nassif, host of the Good Morning Crypto podcast, have also contributed to this theory.

Why Some Believe Schwartz Could Be Nakamoto

XRP community member wEeZiE (@NerdNationUnbox) resurfaced a previous claim from 2022, alleging a possible connection between Schwartz and Nakamoto. wEeZiE highlighted a series of coincidences that fueled this theory.

Firstly, the development of XRP began in May 2011, a mere month after Nakamoto’s last public message. Secondly, wEeZiE pointed out an email sent by Nakamoto to Mike Hearn on April 23rd, 2011, suggesting plans to move on from the project.

Interestingly, a Forbes article mentioned that around the same time (early 2011), Schwartz was also seeking new ventures, which eventually led to the creation of the XRP Ledger alongside Arthur Britto and Jed McCaleb.

The article further revealed Schwartz’s early interest in Bitcoin, driven by concerns over centralized control of money. Additionally, wEeZiE noted that Schwartz, like Nakamoto, used a pseudonym – “Joel Katz.”

Finally, the XRP community member pointed out a date coincidence: Nakamoto shared a pre-release version of the Bitcoin code on November 16th, 2009, which happens to be Schwartz’s birthday.

Schwartz’s Response and Ongoing Mystery

As of now, there is no concrete evidence to confirm the identity of Satoshi Nakamoto or definitively link Schwartz to the creation of Bitcoin. Other individuals, like Australian computer scientist Craig Wright, have also laid claim to being Nakamoto. However, a federal high court recently dismissed Wright’s claims.

Despite the court’s ruling, some within the Bitcoin community continue to believe Wright might be Nakamoto. In response to these claims, Schwartz himself has jokingly stated that he is more likely to be Nakamoto than Wright.

The true identity of Satoshi Nakamoto is likely to remain a subject of debate and speculation for the foreseeable future. While the coincidences highlighted by Schwartz’s supporters are intriguing, they do not constitute definitive proof. The mystery surrounding Nakamoto’s identity continues to be a captivating aspect of Bitcoin’s origin story.
