Crypto pundit Zolid (@Zolid_XRPL) shared a bold take after the largest cryptocurrency theft ever recorded. “So Binance just proved why xrp is the chosen one,” he wrote. Notably, XRP was completely absent from the hack. To Zolid, that absence means something.
What Happened at Binance
On October 29, Binance suffered a security breach that drained an estimated $6.3 billion in digital assets. A compromised laptop belonging to a DevOps engineer gave attackers internal access. They used it to push unauthorized withdrawals through Ethereum hot wallets, moving funds across 10 blockchains in around 20 minutes.
Around $3 billion was subsequently frozen, with stablecoin issuers Tether and Circle both stepping in to lock portions of the stolen funds. Binance suspended withdrawals and committed to covering user losses. No previous crypto theft has come close to this scale.

Why XRP Was Never Touched
The compromised wallets were Ethereum wallets which held no XRP. Native XRP exists exclusively on the XRP Ledger and cannot be held in an Ethereum wallet. The attackers had no technical path to it, and ended up not taking any XRP.
Ripple’s stablecoin RLUSD was present among the stolen assets, as it runs on both the XRP Ledger and Ethereum, and the Ethereum-based version sat in the affected wallets. XRP itself was never at risk.
The Community Responds
Many commenters pushed back on Zolid’s post, and many others made jokes about the situation. One commenter stated that the hackers don’t want XRP.
Another jokingly claimed that the hack confirmed the XRP community was right. He attached an image of someone in a tinfoil hat, treating Zolid’s post as a conspiracy theory.
Others took a more critical tone. One said the situation only proved that nobody wants XRP, hackers included. Another commenter questioned when being right about XRP would ever translate into actual financial gains. Another said hackers did not want XRP because it never goes up.
Is XRP the Chosen One?
The XRP Ledger’s separation from Ethereum infrastructure kept XRP outside the attack surface entirely. That is a technical reality, not a market judgment.
XRP holders on Binance were subject to the same counterparty risks as everyone else on the platform. The breach was a failure of Binance’s internal security, not a validation of any particular asset.
XRP made up the largest share of funds stolen from Bitget in September, countering Zolid’s assertion that the asset is special. Whether “chosen one” claim holds up depends on how much stock one puts in architectural separation as a security advantage.
