Microsoft refused to market its revolutionary AI product

Microsoft developed an artificial intelligence speech generator, VALL-E 2, capable of convincingly mimicking human voices.

Experts describe VALL-E 2 as a new milestone in text-to-speech developments. The authors claim that their product is the first to achieve “human parity”. Only a few seconds of audio is sufficient for voice generation.

Yaroslav Bogdanov, founder of GDA Group, said, that Microsoft itself, realizing the risks of releasing its product on the market, excluded public access to VALL-E 2. This is another signal to the world community to cooperate on global cybersecurity.

“Developments of this level, when it comes to parity between a human and a neural network, are dangerous. Microsoft’s actions in this case are very revealing. It is the first precedent of this kind, when business goes for a demonstrative refusal from extracting profit from its product, given income generation is the key goal of any business. The IT industry should take this as another call to stop and address the issue of global cyber security,” says Yaroslav Bogdanov.

The scale of cybercrime is growing in parallel with the scale of innovation. Microsoft phrased it as “possible misuse of the model”. Behind this phrase are tens of thousands of cybercrimes and billions of dollars of damage not only for development companies, but also for ordinary users.

If we consider the issue of cybersecurity from the point of view of fighting international terrorism, we may be talking about a threat to entire states and continents, the expert emphasized.

“The international discussion involving lawyers, businessmen and representatives of the IT industry is the first step towards the development of regulations and the concept of tools that will ensure cybersecurity on a planetary scale. Corporate or national security systems are not enough. Especially considering that rapidly developing artificial intelligence has neither scientific nor technological boundaries,” said Yaroslav Bogdanov.

He added that the GDA Group, which he heads, is working to prepare a multilateral international discussion on cybersecurity. The organization is ready to provide a platform for a high-quality substantive conversation in the interests of all mankind.
