John Deaton, the renowned U.S. attorney representing over 75k XRP holders as a ‘friend of the court’ in the ongoing Ripple Labs vs SEC lawsuit, has slammed the Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin for attacking XRP and its community.
Recall that the lead Ethereum co-founder said in a recent podcast show that the XRPL native token is completely centralized, inferring that the currently 6th largest crypto asset should not be classified among regular cryptocurrencies like BTC and ETH.
Furthermore, Buterin said the XRP community owes the ETH community an apology. “XRP hasn’t apologized for writing documents to the US government basically saying that they should be favored over Bitcoin and Ethereum because Bitcoin and Ethereum are China controlled,” he said.
Reacting to this controversial and highly provocative assertion, John Deaton expressed gross anger toward Vitalik Buterin’s contempt for XRP in a Tuesday thread, remarking that his inability to differentiate between Ripple and XRP is an ‘intentional nonsense’.

It bears mentioning that the write-up that ‘ETH is China-controlled’ was not communicated by the XRP community. It was authored by Ripple lawyers in one of their court filings relating to the Ripple-SEC case.
Hence, both John Deaton and Ripple CTO David Schwartz are grossly disappointed that an intellect like Vitalik Buterin cannot differentiate between the two entities. The Ripple CTO wrote, “All this time and he still doesn’t understand or is pretending not to understand, that Ripple is a company and XRP is a digital asset. He thinks XRP can say things.”
As tweeted by John Deaton, “Vitalik said XRP lost its right to protection. Now he says that “XRP hasn’t apologized. How the hell does a piece of software code lose protection or apologize? When he says XRP lost its right to protection he is implying that individual holders deserve no protection.”
“I don’t give a shit if you adore Vitalik – this is inexcusable and it shows a complete lack of emotional maturity. He can say anything he wants about Ripple, David Schwartz, Brad Garlinghouse, and Chris Larsen – they can speak for themselves. I don’t have shit to say about those comments,” he wrote.
The staunch XRP proponent, who reiterated that he holds no grudge against the Ether creator as he is a holder of BTC and ETH, questioned Buterin’s character, citing hypocrisy. In the words of John Deaton, “I’m an ETH holder. I’ve said Vitalik would be on Crypto’s Mount Rushmore, so I’m no hater. This is intentional nonsense and even if you love Vitalik, you know it’s true.”
“…for those of us who own BTC, ETH, XRP, etc, and have fought against tribalism and who believe in more than one token or platform, having the face of Ethereum indict holders of XRP while at the same time say SBFraud deserves love makes one question his character.”
