IOTA has been selected by the European Commission alongside just three other companies for Phase 2A of the European Blockchain Services Infrastructure (EBSI).
This European Commission-backed initiative is intended to develop and operate a comprehensive international distributed network that will enable the flow of verified information between institutions, enterprises, and individuals throughout the EEA. This phase will last six months and emphasize research, prototype development and lab testing.

Throughout this phase, IOTA will test and demonstrate how future evolutions of EBSI could evolve towards a more scalable, energy-efficient, secure, and interoperable architecture.
The company and its partners will test innovations meant to benefit the EBSI infrastructure, with a diverse range of use cases including (but not limited to) digital product passports for digital waste recycling and the cross-border management of IP rights for creative work.
IOTA Kicks Off Staking on Assembly and Shimmer
After the announcement of Shimmer, the incentivized staging network of IOTA, and Assembly, the permissionless smart contract network anchored into IOTA, the excitement for the community is starting to get real with the official launch of one of the biggest token airdrop campaigns in crypto history. This development was shared with the IOTA community on 21st December 2021.

Shimmer tokens and Assembly tokens will be airdropped to IOTA stakers over a three-month period. All that is required is to stake IOTA tokens within the Firefly wallet.
Shimmer tweeted, “Pre-staking just started! But what does it mean? 1 MIOTA gets you 1 SMR every 10 seconds for up to 90 days starting Dec 28th at 3 PM. Get set up in the Firefly wallet. And don’t forget, you can simultaneously stake on Assembly too.”
