Elon Musk Says a Significant Change to Twitter Would Take Effect Tomorrow: Details

In a recent development, Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, confirmed that he will be changing the Twitter logo to an “X” on Monday.

This announcement followed his tweet on Sunday, where he hinted at bidding farewell to the Twitter brand. Musk’s decision stems from his vision for an all-encompassing “everything app” called “X.”

Confirmation and Motivation

Musk responded to an invitation on Twitter Spaces from a Twitter Blue subscriber named Greg (@greg16676935420) and confirmed that the logo change is indeed happening. When asked why he decided to implement this change now, Musk admitted that it should have been done earlier and apologized for the delay.

In his casual manner, Musk mentioned that the Twitter logo would be removed from the building using blow torches, adding a touch of drama to the transition process.

The Letter X and Its Significance

Elon Musk’s fondness for the letter “X” was evident when he shared a photo of himself in front of a Tesla X logo while forming the letter “X” with his arms. This preference aligns with his plans for the “super app” called “X.”

Drawing inspiration from WeChat, a comprehensive messaging, social media, and payment app popular in China, Musk envisions creating a similar application outside of China to meet users’ diverse needs.

Collaborating with the Twitter Community

Musk actively engaged with his Twitter followers for suggestions on the new logo design. He even proposed that if a suitable “X” logo was posted, it would be implemented worldwide the following day.

Numerous submissions poured in, ranging from serious designs to humorous ones. Ultimately, it appears that a submission from Twitter user Sawyer Merritt, who credited their co-host Alex Tourville from the now discontinued Official X Podcast, caught Musk’s attention and maybe the chosen design.

Twitter Logo Transitioning to X

Elon Musk’s decision to bring Linda Yaccarino on board as Twitter CEO in May was driven by his vision to transition the platform from Twitter to “X.” With the upcoming logo change, Musk aims to align Twitter’s identity with his broader goals for an all-encompassing app.

As the transition takes place, it will be interesting to see how Musk’s vision for “X” unfolds and how it will integrate various functionalities akin to WeChat, revolutionizing the way people communicate, socialize, and transact outside the bounds of China.
