Cardano users are facing a security threat after the official YouTube channel of Input Output Group (IOG) was compromised on September 18. Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson confirmed on X that the IOG YouTube channel had been hijacked by unauthorized parties.
He said his team was working with YouTube to remove the content and recover account credentials. He warned users not to trust any videos or click on any links appearing on the channel.
IOG also released a separate public advisory, instructing users to avoid interacting with its YouTube channel entirely until further notice. The crypto space has seen a notable wave of scams in 2026, and investors must stay vigilant.

Nature of the Fraudulent Content
The compromised channel broadcast a livestream where an AI-manipulated version of Hoskinson promoted a cryptocurrency giveaway. The stream was presented as a Project Catalyst town hall, a format that uses a name recognized within the Cardano community. Viewers were told they could double their cryptocurrency holdings, displaying a QR code as part of the scheme.
These offers, specifically fake Hoskinson livestreams and offers to send ADA and receive more ADA back, are already identified as a known scam format within Cardano’s own security guidelines. YouTube has also been called out for not doing enough to fight these tactics. Legitimate giveaways do not require participants to send cryptocurrency first.
Why This Incident is Particularly Concerning
What distinguishes this attack from more obvious scam attempts is that the fraudulent content was distributed through what appeared to be a verified and reputable official channel. This approach is designed to lower the guard of experienced users who might otherwise identify and avoid suspicious sources.
A similar attack happened in 2024 when the YouTube account of India’s Supreme Court was hacked to promote cryptocurrency scams.

What Users Should Do
Until IOG confirms control of the channel has been restored, all videos, QR codes, and external links associated with the affected channel are potentially harmful. Users should not send funds, click any links, or submit any personal information connected to content on the channel.
This came just days after a major cybercrime attack on an XRP holder. However, there is no indication that the Cardano blockchain network itself has been compromised. Holding ADA does not expose users to risk. The danger is triggered only when interacting with scam content, including fraudulent giveaway offers, QR codes, or requests to transfer funds.
