Binance Founder CZ Publicly Backs XRP. Here’s why

Binance founder Changpeng Zhao has reaffirmed his support for XRP, Solana and Zcash as Solana faces scrutiny over its expansion efforts in China.

Zhao, widely known as CZ, took to X to restate his bullish stance on a range of digital assets. He listed Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), BNB, XRP, Solana (SOL), Hyperliquid (HYPE), Zcash (ZEC), SIGN and stablecoins as projects he supports.

His message went beyond individual tokens. “I’m always supportive of any blockchain making any progress in any country,” CZ said.

The post landed at a sensitive moment. Solana had just made a high-profile push into China, opening an office in Shanghai and running a large advertising campaign across the city. CZ initially welcomed the move. He suggested Solana’s presence could open doors for other blockchain projects and potentially signal a softening of China’s longstanding crypto restrictions.

Solana’s Shanghai Stumble

The optimism did not last long. Solana postponed its scheduled event at Shanghai’s Shangri-La Hotel on October 16. Reports indicated that attendees encountered law enforcement at the venue. Solana’s organizers attributed the postponement to logistical issues. Solana Foundation President Lily Liu later explained that registrations surged fourfold without warning, pushing the headcount beyond what organisers had filed with local authorities.

The timing put CZ’s earlier comments under scrutiny. Some social media users speculated that his posts had drawn official attention to Solana’s activities in China.

CZ noted that a Solana advertisement on a Shanghai building was removed within 10 minutes of going up. He said he learned of the advertisement only 12 to 24 hours after it was taken down, making it impossible for his posts to have caused its removal.

XRP Among the Beneficiaries

XRP’s inclusion in CZ’s list of supported assets adds weight to the token’s standing among major exchange figures. Zhao’s backing of multiple Layer 1 networks reinforces a view that the top tier of crypto assets continues to attract institutional-level confidence, even as regulatory pressures in key markets remain unpredictable.

The situation in Shanghai also serves as a reminder that physical and marketing expansion into China carries real operational risk, regardless of enthusiasm from the broader industry.

CZ appears unbothered by the controversy. His message remained consistent: he supports blockchain progress wherever it happens, and the list of assets he backs speaks for itself.
