A Scan of 25,000 AI Servers Found 143,000 Vulnerabilities — Now Someone’s Buying the Scanner

Anaconda announced on August 4, 2026 that it has acquired Enkrypt AI, an AI security and compliance startup, folding pre-deployment red-teaming, runtime guardrails, and compliance automation directly into the Anaconda Platform. The company cited a specific, alarming data point as justification: in the two months before the deal, Enkrypt AI scanned more than 268,000 tools across 25,000 Model Context Protocol servers and found over 143,000 vulnerabilities, affecting 73% of the servers scanned.

Terms of the deal weren’t disclosed. Enkrypt AI’s technology adds security, governance, and compliance capabilities across models, agents, and MCP servers — the connective protocol that lets AI agents call external tools and data sources. Enkrypt is also an OpenAI compliance integration partner, giving organizations running ChatGPT Enterprise built-in access to audit, compliance, and guardrail controls, with Anaconda planning to extend the same model-agnostic approach to enterprises running Anthropic’s models, according to Anaconda’s own announcement.

The third piece of a deliberate acquisition pattern

This is Anaconda’s third strategically sequenced acquisition in recent months. It follows April’s purchase of Outerbounds, which governs how AI workflows move from experimentation into production, and July’s acquisition of Kilo Code, a model-agnostic coding agent used by more than 3 million developers, which extended Anaconda’s reach into the IDE itself. Enkrypt AI fills the one layer neither prior deal touched: the runtime environment where live agents actually call tools and communicate with other systems — the point at which a properly built and tested agent can still be exploited by something nobody inventoried.

Why MCP servers specifically are the exposed layer

Model Context Protocol servers connect AI agents to real-world systems like email, databases, and internal tools, and most were deployed quickly, without security controls built in from the start, as organizations raced to give their AI agents useful capabilities. Enkrypt’s scanning results — nearly three-quarters of tested servers carrying at least one vulnerability — reflect a genuine, underappreciated gap: traditional security assumes a flaw can be identified once and patched, but the agent stack keeps generating new attack surface as agents call new tools and connect to new MCP servers, faster than most security teams can inventory them.

The compliance angle driving enterprise urgency

Anaconda is framing the acquisition explicitly around regulatory pressure, positioning Enkrypt’s compliance automation as covering the NIST AI Risk Management Framework, the EU AI Act, and industry-specific rules layered on top — turning what would otherwise be manual audit work into enforced, automated controls. That pitch lands at a moment when regulatory deadlines, including the EU AI Act’s Article 50 transparency obligations that took effect just two days earlier, are making AI compliance a board-level concern rather than a purely technical one.
