Ripple Is Positioned to Outlast SWIFT: XRP Designed to Last for Next 70,000 Years

Crypto researcher SMQKE (@SMQKEDQG) recently pointed to the durability and utility of XRP as central to its design.

The XRP Ledger was originally designed with 100 billion XRP. No new issuance is possible. Unlike inflationary models, XRP is slightly deflationary, as a fraction of each transaction is destroyed through fees.

SMQKE shared official documentation showing that “at the current rate of destruction, it would take at least 70,000 years to destroy all XRP.” This design means that the asset is structured with longevity in mind, balancing availability with controlled scarcity.

XRP’s Role Among Global Payment Systems

SMQKE also drew attention to Ripple’s potential role within the global financial system. She shared a study which says “Ripple could survive as it is a better version of SWIFT and Bitcoin network, and it could be used by traditional financial organisations for advanced experience of the current service industry.”

This places Ripple and XRP in a unique position, bridging the functions of established financial messaging systems and first-generation blockchain networks.

The reference to both SWIFT and Bitcoin is significant. SWIFT remains the dominant global payments messaging system, but is slow and outdated, and operates without a native settlement asset. Bitcoin introduced the model of decentralized, borderless transactions, but it is constrained by slower settlement and higher energy costs.

XRP is presented here as a solution that combines the messaging efficiency of SWIFT with the blockchain-backed asset functionality pioneered by Bitcoin, and could power a fast, cheap, and efficient global payment system.

Implications for XRP as an Asset

XRP can operate for thousands of years without exhaustion, providing a predictable supply environment. Transaction fees are low and help prevent spam without placing a significant burden on users. Because XRP is necessary for operating on the ledger, any broader adoption of Ripple’s technology by traditional financial institutions strengthens the underlying demand for the asset as a bridge currency.

Ripple has consistently aimed at institutional-grade solutions, focusing on remittances, liquidity management, and interoperability with existing systems. This makes the XRP’s role not speculative alone, but functional within real-world payment infrastructure.

An Exciting Future

The combination of long-term supply sustainability and a position as an alternative to both SWIFT and Bitcoin highlights why XRP continues to be viewed as strategically important. Ripple’s framework suggests that the asset is not only designed to endure but also structured to integrate with existing financial practices.

With documentation showing a 70,000-year horizon for supply depletion and academic references placing Ripple as a viable successor to legacy systems, XRP is viewed by many as the future of global finance.
