Southeast Asia’s latest move toward cross-border stablecoin payments has caught the attention of crypto commentator Digital Asset Investor, who believes the development aligns with a plan long anticipated by the XRP community.
According to a tweet he referenced from Coin Bureau, Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand are expanding Project BLOOM, an initiative designed to improve cross-border settlement using regulated stablecoins and tokenized bank deposits.
What Project BLOOM Aims to Achieve
Project BLOOM, which stands for Borderless, Liquid, Open, Online, Multi-currency, is an initiative launched by the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) aimed at improving cross-border payments.
The project brings together companies from across the financial sector such as Visa, Mastercard, Stripe, Airwallex, Nium, Circle, Coinbase, Ripple, and StraitsX.
Banks and other financial institutions, including DBS, Maybank, Standard Chartered, and J.P. Morgan through its Kinexys platform, are also participating.

Why the Regional Expansion Matters
The involvement of central banks gives Project BLOOM a regulatory foundation as financial institutions explore the use of digital money. The initiative examines how regulated stablecoins and tokenized bank deposits could support payments under established oversight.
Assets such as USDC, Ripple USD (RLUSD), and StraitsX’s XSGD illustrate the types of digital currencies relevant to this market. However, their inclusion as examples does not mean every asset has been approved or deployed across all three countries.
Project BLOOM also seeks to address the costs and delays associated with traditional cross-border payments, which can require several intermediary banks to process a transaction. Common standards could simplify these processes and improve settlement efficiency.
These changes could benefit businesses and consumers across Southeast Asia, where regional trade, remittances, and online commerce create demand for reliable international payment services.
What Ripple’s Participation Means for XRP
Ripple’s involvement places the company among the firms working to improve cross-border payment infrastructure. Digital Asset Investor sees this development as consistent with the long-term vision he described: connecting financial networks and putting the infrastructure in place to execute the plan.
However, Ripple’s participation does not confirm that XRP will be used to settle transactions through Project BLOOM. The initiative’s expansion also does not establish a direct increase in demand for the token.
Whether this cooperation eventually translates into greater utility for XRP will depend on how the infrastructure develops and which assets participating institutions choose to use.
