XRP Ledger Just Hit Major Milestone. Here’s the Latest

Something significant happened on the XRP Ledger on October 8. Vet, a well-known validator on the ledger, shared on X that the PermissionDelegationV1_1 amendment was activated. He called it “a major milestone for the network and a much-needed building brick for institutional users of the XRPL.”

Permission Delegation lets XRPL account holders assign specific transaction permissions to separate accounts, so daily operations can run without exposing the master private key. Operational control separates from key ownership, and security stays intact.

Already in Use Hours After Activation

The amendment activated and participants moved immediately. Within hours, 66 DELEGATE_SET transactions had already been executed, all on October 8. The speed of that early activity shows how long people had been waiting for this feature.

That kind of immediate usage signals real anticipation. After it went live, activity followed at a pace that suggests prior preparation.

The Importance of this Amendment

Large institutions face a genuine problem with blockchain infrastructure. Handing full account key access to every team member who needs to execute transactions is a security risk no compliance department will approve.

Permission delegation solves this directly. Organizations can now assign specific permissions to specific parties while the primary key stays protected. For asset issuers, custodians, and treasury operations looking to work with XRP and the XRPL, a real barrier to operating on the ledger has been removed.

What the Community Said

Reaction across the community was mostly positive. One member described permission delegation as the kind of upgrade that goes unnoticed until every institution on the ledger is already using it, calling the day quietly huge for XRPL. Another saw the activation as a sign the ledger is preparing for serious institutional development.

One commenter offered a more skeptical take. He pointed out that delegating access without sharing root credentials is an old concept. He questioned why the feature was receiving so much attention.

The technical observation has merit, since the underlying idea is well established in computing. The difference is that this capability now exists natively on the XRPL. Participants don’t need workarounds or off-chain arrangements.

Building for What Comes Next

Permission Delegation is an infrastructure upgrade, and those tend to carry more long-term significance than surface-level feature additions. Institutions that previously could not meet their own internal security standards for on-chain operations now have a native path forward on the XRP Ledger.

The network keeps building tools that serious participants actually need, and more upgrades are on the way. With 66 transactions recorded in the first few hours after activation, the early signs suggest those tools are reaching the right audience.
