XRP Ledger Enters Brazil’s $4 Trillion Market: The First of This Scale

CSD BR, a Brazilian market operator with trillions in registered assets, has chosen the XRP Ledger for a live rollout.

The step is one of the network’s most significant institutional adoption wins to date. CSD BR, a financial market infrastructure provider, has started connecting the ledger to its regulated securities systems, according to a local media outlet. Ripple leads the initiative.

A Regulated Operator of Enormous Scale

CSD BR forms part of Brazil’s regulated capital market structure. It handles asset registration and central securities depository functions, among other services. Major Brazilian regulators authorize the company, including the Central Bank of Brazil.

Ripple executive Luke Judges said CSD BR holds more than BRL 22 trillion ($4.23 trillion) in registered assets. He also noted that Brazil ranks as the world’s 10th-largest economy. These figures show why this partnership deserves close attention.

How the Rollout Will Begin

The XRP Ledger will first serve as an additional record and audit layer for investment fund shares held at CSD BR. The first assets come from BTG Pactual, one of Brazil’s largest banks. The ledger connects to infrastructure that already operates within the regulated capital markets.

Judges called this the first public integration of the XRP Ledger into core financial market infrastructure of this scale. He said the project could open a path for significant portions of Brazil’s massive fixed-income market to move onto the ledger.

From Pilot Projects to Live Operation

The initiative aims to move past the familiar proof-of-concept model. Silvio Pegado, Ripple’s Latin America Managing Director, described the transition from pilots to live national capital-market infrastructure as an important milestone. He said the milestone matters for the wider distributed-ledger industry.

Why CSD BR Selected the Network

Judges explained that CSD BR selected the XRP Ledger because developers designed it around financial applications. He described the network as “purpose-built for financial use cases.” According to the judges, it can integrate with existing regulated infrastructure out of the box.

CSD BR uses a single blockchain in its technology stack. Judges said XRPL is “the only blockchain in the stack” today. The deployment puts the XRP Ledger in a sole role instead of one network within a large multichain experiment.

Path Ahead for the Fixed-Income Market

The rollout starts with fund shares from a single bank. Judges tied any wider expansion to Brazil’s massive fixed-income market. That market could significantly shift onto the XRP Ledger. The scale of the assets at CSD BR gives this prospect real weight.
