Ripple CEO Drops Major Statement for XRP Holders After CLARITY Act Failed

Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse has responded to the failed Clarity Act, describing the outcome as a major disappointment for the cryptocurrency industry.

Garlinghouse said Ripple and other industry participants invested significant effort in trying to move the legislation forward, explaining that the bill represented an opportunity to establish clearer rules for digital assets in the United States.

Garlinghouse Says Industry Effort Fell Short

Garlinghouse said Ripple’s team “gave everything” they had to get the Clarity Act across the finish line. He added that the crypto industry also worked toward advancing the legislation.

The Ripple CEO stressed that the effort went beyond a single company. He said the industry supported the bill for consumers and to strengthen the United States’ position in the global cryptocurrency sector and the future of finance.

“Ultimately, consumers and U.S. competitiveness got left behind,” Garlinghouse wrote.

His comments came after the legislation failed to secure the progress supporters had sought in Washington. Garlinghouse said the outcome requires a detailed examination of the reasons behind the failure.

Ripple CEO Calls for Post-Mortem

Garlinghouse said a “post mortem” needs to take place to examine why the Clarity Act failed. He added that he would provide more comments in the coming days.

The Ripple CEO also criticized what he described as Democratic opposition to cryptocurrency, called the “anti-crypto army.” He said political considerations were elevated over what he characterized as good policy.

The comments put Garlinghouse’s focus on the political process surrounding the legislation rather than on changes to Ripple’s business operations. His message also indicates that he expects the company to remain involved in U.S. regulatory developments despite the setback.

SEC and CFTC Remain Central to U.S. Crypto Rules

Garlinghouse said there remains reason for optimism about cryptocurrency in the United States. He pointed to continued work by the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission to develop rules that could address the legislative gap.

He specifically referenced SEC Chair Atkins and CFTC Chair Selig, saying the agencies will continue working on regulations while Ripple remains actively involved in the rulemaking process.

This approach could keep regulatory developments moving even without the Clarity Act. Garlinghouse’s comments indicate that Ripple intends to participate as U.S. regulators develop additional rules for the digital asset industry.

Ripple Business Remains Strong

Garlinghouse also used the post to address Ripple’s business position. He said the company’s business “has never been stronger,” citing demand from traditional finance and the digital asset ecosystem.

He added that the missed vote in Washington does not change Ripple’s momentum, global footprint or customer base.

For Ripple, Garlinghouse’s message combines disappointment over the Clarity Act’s failure with confidence in the company’s ongoing operations. He also made clear that the company plans to remain engaged with U.S. regulators as the country continues to develop its approach to cryptocurrency.
