Ripple Sends 20,000,000 XRP In One Transaction. The Destination Makes It Crucial

A large XRP transaction involving Ripple has caught the eyes of the XRP Army after crypto analyst Xaif Crypto highlighted the movement in a recent X post.

According to the analyst, Ripple transferred 20 million XRP in a single transaction, with blockchain data suggesting the funds were sent to what appears to be an exchange or custodial account. The post focused on the destination tag attached to the transaction, which Xaif Crypto believes indicates the funds were not sent to an ordinary private wallet.

To support the claim, Xaif Crypto shared a screenshot from XRPScan showing the transaction details. The record indicates that Ripple initiated a payment of exactly 20,000,000 XRP on July 17, 2026. The transaction was successfully processed on Ledger 105,667,534 with a network fee of just 0.000015 XRP, illustrating the low transaction costs on the XRP Ledger despite the transfer size.

Destination Tag Becomes the Main Focus

Rather than emphasizing the amount transferred alone, Xaif Crypto centered the discussion on the destination tag associated with the receiving address.

The XRPScan screenshot attached to the post shows the recipient address accompanied by the destination tag 862900070. On the XRP Ledger, destination tags are commonly used by exchanges, custodians, and payment providers to distinguish deposits from different customers while using the same wallet address. Because of this, the analyst interpreted the transaction as one directed toward an exchange or custodial service rather than an independently controlled wallet.

The blockchain record also shows that the entire 20 million XRP was successfully delivered in a single payment, demonstrating the XRP Ledger’s ability to settle large-value transfers quickly and at minimal cost.

Community Offers Different Interpretations

The post attracted a range of reactions from members of the XRP community, many of whom offered different explanations for the transaction.

X user XRP Myth Buster noted that destination tags are not used exclusively by exchanges. According to the commenter, organizations may also use destination tags within their own wallet infrastructure to automatically organize and assign incoming or outgoing payments, meaning the tag alone does not definitively confirm an exchange deposit.

Others viewed the transfer as routine. Macro Bombastic described it as a typical whale transaction, as another user, Steve, pointed out that moving such a large amount of XRP cost almost nothing in network fees, highlighting one of the XRP Ledger’s well-known characteristics.

Some commenters took a more cautious stance. ObsidianX expressed concern about the implications of the transfer, while another user questioned whether it could precede additional selling activity.

Meanwhile, X user OomDagobert suggested that Ripple frequently moves XRP as part of liquidity management for its payment network or to support operational requirements. While acknowledging that large on-chain transfers are common for the company, the commenter agreed that the destination tag appeared consistent with an exchange-bound or custodial account.

Xaif Crypto’s post primarily focused on reporting the blockchain transaction and highlighting its destination, leaving the purpose of the transfer open to interpretation. As of the time of the post, Ripple had not publicly commented on the reason for the 20 million XRP movement.
