72 Million XRP In 24 Hours. Here’s What Happened

XRP whales are on a buying spree. Crypto analyst Ali Martinez posted a chart showing XRP whale holdings climbing to 12.18 billion tokens. In 24 hours, large holders accumulated over 72 million XRP. Martinez noted, “I wonder what they know that we don’t.”

Whales Move While Retail Watches

The chart, sourced from Santiment, tracks whale holdings across four data points. Holdings started near 12.07 billion before August 11. They rose steadily for two days. Then on August 13, they jumped sharply to 12.18 billion. That is an increase of over 110 million XRP across the four days shown.

Large holders do not accumulate randomly. They accumulate when they see value. XRP is currently trading near $1, a level that has historically attracted significant buying interest. Martinez asked whether whales are preparing for a bull rally. The timing of this accumulation makes that question notable.

The $1 Level as a Buying Opportunity

$1 is a psychological threshold for XRP. The asset has spent over 600 days closing above that level. Each time it approaches this price, buyers have stepped in. Whales appear to be doing exactly that now. The data shows accumulation accelerating precisely as XRP hovers near this zone.

For large holders with a long-term outlook, prices near $1 represent a significant discount from the asset’s all-time high of $3.65 recorded in July 2025. That is a potential entry at roughly 73% below the cycle high.

Analysts See One More Dip Before a Rally

Not every analyst expects an immediate recovery. Analyst CasiTrades (@CasiTrades) has outlined a scenario where XRP drops to around $0.87 before a larger move begins. She has identified this level as a key support zone based on Elliott Wave analysis and Fibonacci retracement levels.

If XRP does drop below $1 again, whale accumulation may intensify. Large holders accumulating at $1 would likely accumulate even more aggressively at $0.87 or lower. That pattern of buying into weakness is a hallmark of institutional-level positioning ahead of a major move.

Martinez’s post asks what whales know that retail investors do not. The chart offers a partial answer. Whales are not selling into weakness. They are buying it and accumulating rapidly. Holdings rose even as the price struggled near support, and they might keep rising if XRP falls further.
