Microsoft Xbox is a video game dashboard. It possesses five video game consoles and a streaming facility. In addition, it also offers Xbox Live online service. X box’s Background and Future
With the release of PlayStation 2, Microsoft considered it to be a threat to the PCs. Consequently, Microsoft’s Direct X tea begin to develop Microsoft console. They started to ideate how to compete with Play station 2. Therefore, they designed a system to power the games on the console. This would be convenient for building the games as per the user’s choice. The Microsoft marketing team surveyed to name the consoles. Therefore, “Xbox” was selected based on the highest preferences.
Microsoft has been working to strengthen the branding of Xbox. It identifies Microsoft azure as a major component of its plans. Azure empowers the “xCloud” Game streaming. Hence, Microsoft is toiling hard to position itself in gaming. Therefore, they continue to emphasize Xbox branding.
First generation: Xbox
It was released in 2001 and was named Xbox. It was the first Microsoft’s foray into the gaming world. The Xbox successfully competed with PS2, Sega’s Dreamcast, and Nintendo’s GameCube. However, Xbox Live requires a Subscription, whereas these two are free. The integrated Xbox Live service was released in 2002. The Xbox Live turned to be a success due to its features.
Second generation: Xbox 360
The Xbox 360 was launched in November 2005. It competed with PS5 and Nintendo’s Wii game consoles. In 2013, 78.2 million Xbox 360 were sold worldwide. The Xbox 360 was officially released in 2005. It offers a varying amount of RAM and internal storage.
Third generation: Xbox One
In November 2013, Xbox One was released. Xbox One competed with PS4 and Nintendo’s Wii U. Consequently, it was a successor for Xbox 360. It focuses on internet features and includes the ability to record. Further, the Xbox One offers stream gameplay and set-top box integration.
Fourth generation: Xbox Series X and Series S
The Xbox Series X and Series S were launched in 2020. Both of them are considered to be the ninth generation of video game consoles. It has been designed as per model family playable on both systems.
